Vandy gets the sweep, beats Rhode Island 12-8
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Vanderbilt overcame two blown leads by erupting in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, as it beat Rhode Island 12-8 on Sunday to sweep the three-game series at Hawkins Field.
The Commodores trailed 4-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth, but scored four runs that inning. After the Rams answered with four more in the top of the seventh, the 'Dores added three more in the bottom half of the inning, and two more in the eighth for insurance.
Tony Kemp's RBI single in the seventh gave VU the lead for good. Kemp also added an RBI single in the sixth. An Anthony Gomez double in the sixth also knocked in a pair of runs.
