VandySports.com NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tyler Beede pitched seven shutout innings, and Spencer Navin had a homer and a run-scoring triple, helping Vanderbilt beat top-ranked Kentucky 4-3 at Hawkins Field on Saturday afternoon.
Beede, who struck out eight, walked four, and gave up four hits, left with a 3-0 lead, but once again failed to get a win because Kentucky put together a three-run rally in the eighth inning. However, Navin rescued the Commodores with a two-out triple that scored Conrad Gregor with the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning.
With the victory, the Commodores (20-23, 8-12 Southeastern Conference) are currently a game ahead of Tennessee, and two ahead of Alabama, for the final spot in the race to get to the SEC Tournament.
