The South Carolina game, in a nutshell

Vanderbilt gutted out a seven-point road win at South Carolina on Saturday afternoon. Here are the key details from VU's first conference victory.


Turning point:
Vanderbilt led by 10 with about eight and a half minutes left, but a Carolina team that hadn't hit shots all day figured to hit a few at some points. It finally started to do that (though most came from the foul line) as the Gamecocks cut the Vandy lead to 51-49 when Bruce Ellington picked up a loose ball under the right side of the goal and laid it in with 3:32 left.

The teams traded misses twice before Vandy had the ball left with about a minute and a half, and Dai-Jon Parker missed a shot. But Sheldon Jeter got an offensive rebound for Vandy, and when Rod Odom was fouled six seconds later with 1:16 left and hit a pair of free throws, VU led by four.
