Season overview

Coming off last year's surprising 19-15 campaign that included a surprising 10-6 Southeastern Conference mark and an NIT berth, most experts figured the Vols to make the NCAA Tournament this season. At 10-8 so far, the Vols may instead wind up being fortunate just to repeat last year's NIT berth.

Though the Vols should probably have fared better anyway, one good explanation between the team's performance and expectation is the absence of talented forward Jeronne Maymon, who averaged 12.7 points and 8.1 rebounds last season. Maymon would have started in UT's front-court, but never fully recovered from off-season knee surgery and is redshirting this season.
