Bevy of top-flight arms hope to lead VU to Omaha

VandySports.com Tim Corbin's Vanderbilt teams have always been built around pitching and defense, and his recent recruiting efforts have ensured that the pitching portion of the equation has been resolved once again. The Commodores already had a talented core of returning talent, and Corbin's second-straight No. 1 recruiting class figures not only to patch a few holes, but to give Vandy some potential and immediate stars.
Here's a look at how things shape up as the season opens today.
Upperclassmen headline a top-flight rotation For professional upside, few rotations top Vandy's weekend trio of Kevin Ziomek, Tyler Beede and T.J. Pecoraro. Now, the three have a chance to prove they're one of college baseball's best, too.
Ziomek, a lefty, gets the Friday night nod after a disappointing 5.22 ERA in 79.1 innings. However, the junior's summer in the Cape Cod League (28.1 IP, 36 Ks, six BBs, 1.27 ERA) as well as his freshman season (1.59 ERA in 45.1 IP) are indicative of Ziomek's upside.
