What to watch for on Saturday
Vanderbilt (3-3) has a huge game on Saturday against a wounded Georgia team, and suddenly, the 'Dores have a fighting shot at an upset. What do they need to do to win? VandySports.com's Chris Lee has some keys to watch tomorrow.
Which teams show up? It's been an up-and-down season for Vanderbilt. The Commodores looked like world-beaters in the first half of the Ole Miss game, and got rolled in the second half. That was more or less a precursor for what was to come; VU looked good in the first half of Austin Peay, then not so good in the second half, then terrible in the first half against South Carolina but good in the second half. Against Missouri, they were awful most of the game, but pretty good most of the UAB game the week before. If you have any idea as to what VU team shows up tomorrow, then you're a much better guesser than am I.
On the other hand, it's been a roller-coaster in Athens, also. Georgia looked like a national title contender after beating LSU at home a few weeks after beating South Carolina, but then the Bulldogs had an unbelievable rash of injuries and nearly lost in Knoxville, and couldn't stay within two touchdowns against Missouri in Athens last weekend. Fingers were evidently being pointed in Athens this week after that loss, and between that and being knocked out of the national title picture, it remains to be seen what frame of mind the Bulldogs are in coming to Nashville.
