Previewing Vanderbilt at Texas A&M
Vanderbilt and Texas A&M kick off at 11:21 Central in College Station on Saturday. The Commodores, playing without quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels, are 17-point underdogs, but figure to be able to expose A&M in some areas, anyway. Chris Lee has a detailed look at how the teams match up.
When Vanderbilt runs: WIth Patton Robinette making his first start at quarterback on Saturday, VU would figure to try to run the ball more than it passes. In that regard, the Commodores are fortunate to draw the Aggies, who are yielding a staggering 5.9 yards per carry and nearly 227 yards each week on the ground.
The biggest problem, from the Aggies' perspective, has been... well, nearly everything. After losing five key senior starters from a year, including two to the NFL, nobody has really stepped up and played well. Three of A&M's front seven players returned, including sophomore Julien Obioha, who was good as a true freshman last year, but his production has dropped off this season. One issue is that all of the front four are underclassmen, including 310-pound freshman Isaiah Golden.
