October 13, 2012NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Florida's Jeff Driskel ran for 177 yards and three touchdowns, leading the No. 4 Gators to a 31-17 victory over Vanderbilt at Dudley Field on Saturday evening.
Vandy grabbed an early 7-0 lead on a Jordan Rodgers-to-Jordan Matthews touchdown pass, but Driskel ran for scores in the second, third and fourth-quarters. VU stayed within striking distance most of the night, but every time the Commodores punched, Driskel punched back.
The first came when Driskel ran un-touched for a 37-yard scoring run in the first half, and Trey Burton added a 2-point conversion to put the Gators ahead by one. Caleb Sturgis added a field goal to put UF up 11-7 at the half.
Driskel then added a 13-yard scoring run to open the third-quarter scoring. A Rodgers fumble on the first play of the fourth quarter set up another Sturgis field goal to extend the lead to 21-7
VU's Zac Stacy inched the Commodores closer on a 1-yard scoring run, but UF's Andre Debose returned the kickoff 60 yards, setting up another Sturgis field goal for a 10-point Gator lead.
Vandy's Carey Spear hit a 22-yard field goal to pull within a touchdown, but Driskel added a 70-yard run on the next offensive snap to account for the final margin.
Matthews had eight catches for 131 yards, while Rodgers hit 17-of-31 passes for 237 yards, a score, and no interceptions. Stacy led the team with 24 carries for 86 yards.
