Vanderbilt headed back to Music City Bowl
For the second time in the bowl's 15 year existence, the Music City Bowl has selected Vanderbilt as its SEC member for the New Year's Eve bowl game.
The Music City Bowl announced their news at 5:00 pm CST via their Facebook page:
"It's official! We will be welcoming Vanderbilt as our SEC team to the 2012 Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl this New Year's Eve! Their ACC opponent will be announced soon."
According to multiple sources, Vanderbilt's ACC opponent is expected to be North Carolina State.
It is the first time in Vanderbilt history that the football program has appeared in consecutive bowl games. VU played in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis last year versus Big East member Cincinnati.
If selected, North Carolina State would be appearing in their first Music City Bowl. Last year NC State played in the Belk Bowl in Charlotte versus Louisville. The Wolfpack has appeared in 26 bowl games, stretching back to the 1947 Gator Bowl.
Vanderbilt finished its season with an 8-4 overall record, and 5-3 in the SEC. NC State finished 7-5 overall, and 4-4 in the ACC.
Vanderbilt will officially announce their inclusion in the bowl this evening at a special bowl announcement party. The event will be held at Vanderbilt's Student Life Center, and will begin at 7:00. Doors open at 6:00.
The Music City Bowl is sponsored by Franklin American Mortgage, and is held in Nashville at LP Field, just three miles east of Vanderbilt's campus on the east side of the Cumberland River.
Vanderbilt beat Boston College in the Music City Bowl 16-14.
