December 21, 2012NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Vanderbilt's Kedren Johnson had 25 points, but it wasn't enough, as the Commodore offense went in the deep-freeze down the stretch in a 56-52 loss to Middle Tennessee State at Bridgestone Arena on Friday evening.
The Commodores led 49-40 midway through the second half, with Johnson seeming to score at will. But the Blue Raiders took the lead by one late, and when the sophomore point guard got in the lane to put Vandy back ahead with under a minute left, Kerry Hammond, Jr., stripped the ball and converted a fast-break lay-up on the other end to put Middle up by three.
Ray Cintron converted a free throw in the closing seconds, sending Vandy (5-5) back to .500.
Johnson (9-of-19 from the field) was the only Commodore in double-figures. Foul-shooting (13-of-19) and 18 turnovers doomed VU on the evening.
