January 2, 2013NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Vanderbilt's Sheldon Jeter had a career-high 14 points, as the Commodores slowly expanded on a five-point halftime lead in a 64-50 defeat of visiting William & Mary at Memorial Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Jeter came off the bench to score seven first-half points, hitting all three shots and helping VU take a 26-21 lead after a first half in which neither team was much able to separate itself.
The Tribe briefly took a 29-28 lead with 16:05 remaining, and the contest was tied at 31 at the 15:23 mark. But a 7-0 Vandy run, ended on a 3-pointer by Jeter, gave VU some breathing room for the rest of the evening.
The Commodores helped themselves offensively by hitting 6-of-13 3-pointers (46.2 percent) after halftime. Kedren Johnson and Rod Odom both added a dozen points.
It gave Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings his 182nd win at Memorial Gymnasium, giving him more wins inside the building than any coach in VU history.
The Commodores (6-6) have eight days off before facing defending national champion Kentucky in Nashville.
