March 17, 2013No. 2 Vanderbilt completed its three-game SEC opening series sweep over the Auburn Tigers on Sunday with a 8-6 win at Plainsman Park.
The Commodores jumped ahead early with run in each of its first four innings, including three in the second frame, and held off a rally by the Tigers to move to an impressive 19-2 on the season.
Junior Conrad Gregor drove in three runs to pace the Commodore offense while sophomore Chris Harvey and Rhett Wiseman combined for four more RBI's.
Veterans Mike Yastrzemski and Tony Kemp both went 3-for-4 on the day as well. Kemp also scored his 24th and 25th run of the season.
Sophomore Jared Miller picked up the win after 2.1 innings of relief while fell sophomore Brian Miller claimed his seventh save of the season while closing the door on another Tigers rally attempt in the ninth.
The road sweep marked the first for the COmmodores since turning the feat at Auburn in 2011. Vanderbilt is now 12-1 when scoring seven runs or more this season.
Vanderbilt will return to action on Wednesday with a trip to Murfreesboro to take on the MTSU Blue Raiders. The Commodores will then kick off a 8-game homestand on Friday with its annual three-game series against the Florida Gators.
