Vanderbilt crushes Southern Miss in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Vanderbilt placed four players in double figures and held Southern Mississippi to 28.1 percent shooting in an 82-46 rout of the Golden Eagles before 13,176 fans at Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

John Jenkins (20 points) didn't miss a shot, and was joined in double-digit scoring by A.J. Ogilvy (17), Jermaine Beal (15) and Andre Walker (10).

The Commodores (10-3) built a 22-point halftime lead, and never allowed USM closer than 18 again. Vanderbilt, playing zone defense for most of the afternoon, held Southern Miss to 3-of-21 3-point shooting and out-rebounded the Eagles 41-32.

Vanderbilt, playing zone defense for most of the afternoon, held Southern Miss to 3-of-21 3-point shooting and out-rebounded the Eagles 41-32. USM's leading scorer, Gary Flowers, scored 17 points, but it took 16 shots to get there. Flowers was the only USM player to score in double-figures.

The margin of victory was surprising, considering that the Golden Eagles came in 9-3, even though two of the losses came to Northern Florida and Canisius last week.
