Davis likes Iowa

The Iowa Hawkeyes three scholarships available for the Class of 2014 and one of their top targets in that class appears to be Darrell Davis. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard holds and offer from the Hawkeyes and he says they have told him he is a priority his recruiting class.

"The Iowa coaches have told me that I am one of their top targets in my class," Davis said "They said I would be a great fit for their team and their system."

Has Iowa's sales pitch made a difference thus far? It appears to have taken hold.

"I like Iowa a lot. I like the coaches and the style of play at Iowa," Davis said. "They have been recruiting me for a long time and they are a very good academic school as well."

Davis is a 4.0 student who plans on studying mechanical engineering in college. He said relationships with the coaches will be important in his recruitment and he has a strong one with the Iowa staff.

"I've talked to Coach McCaffery a few times. He's great to talk to and he tells me how much he likes my game and how his style of play fits my game," he said. "I talk with Coach Francis all the time. He calls when he is allowed to call and I call him a lot. We have a great relationship with each other."

Davis said he hasn't made a visit to Iowa yet, but he has been talking to Coach Francis about making one in the future, although a specific date has not been set.

The Hawkeyes aren't the only school from the state of Iowa pursuing the talented guard. Davis visited Iowa State this summer and has a strong relationship with Coach Hoiberg and his staff.

"I like talking to Coach Hoiberg. He's a really good guy and I like talking to him. I also talk to Coach Mann quite a bit and he's a great guy to speak with and he lets me know how much they want me."

In addition to offers from Iowa and Iowa State, Davis has scholarship offers from Kent State, Toledo, Detroit, Eastern Michigan, and Akron. The Detroit native says he has a couple of schools at the top of his list at this point in the recruiting process.

"I would have to say I like Iowa, Iowa State, and Kent State the most right now," he said. "I'm not in a rush to make a decision. I will probably decide after the AAU season next summer and before the start of my senior year."
