What we learned on Saturday

It's hard to learn a lot from a game in which one team is a 49-point favorite over the other, but's Chris Lee took a few things away from Saturday's 38-3 win over Austin Peay. Here's a look at what stood out.

Jordan Cunningham can play.
We had an inkling something was brewing with Cunningham when he got a lot of touches in VU's last open scrimmage before media access was cut off. The fact that Cunningham was on the field at receiver for the Ole Miss game told us he might be a factor at some point. Saturday's seven-catch, 67-yard outing told us that that point may come sooner than we thought, especially with Chris Boyd's status up in the air.

We've cautioned beforehand that it's hard to take too much from a game in which one team is so badly out-manned as Austin Peay was, but Cunningham seemed to run great routes and have the trust of quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels. He also made some athletic plays that you generally haven't seen from most Vanderbilt receivers over the last few decades, and from freshmen in particular.
