Chris Lee chimes in with his weekly Monday morning thoughts. This week, they're about the football season that just ended, and the speculation on whether coach James Franklin will be remaining at Vanderbilt.

Reflections on the 2013-14 season

It's a shame that coaching speculation has taken center stage, because what the football team did in its 2013-14 season was remarkable. Going 9-4 at Vanderbilt is special in its own right, but with all the distractions and built-in excuses for the season not to go well, it did, anyway.

A 9-4 outcome would have been about what I expected, but that was before the off-season rape scandal and a slew of injuries. Before that, VU had maybe the best tandem of receivers in the conference in Chris Boyd and Jordan Matthews. It had a dynamic, play-making tight end in Brandon Vandenburg that it lacked last season. It returned most of its defense from the previous year.
