Five key questions about Vanderbilt

Ole Miss comes to town on Saturday, and's Chris Lee fields five key questions from publisher Neal McCready regarding the Commodores.

1. Temple 37, Vanderbilt 7. What the hell happened?

That's the question a lot of Vandy fans are still asking six days later. I grew up in Nashville and started attending games in the late 1970s and so I've seen 10 lifetimes' worth of bad football, but given the opponent, that ranks just behind the infamous 44-7 debacle to an SMU squad in its second year removed from the death penalty. The difference, of course, was that this Vanderbilt team actually had the talent to make a bowl game whereas that one did not.

History aside, it's hard to beat anybody when you turn the ball over seven times, with one going for a touchdown and the other six leaving Temple inside VU territory. The offense found no rhythm in the passing game between three quarterbacks, the line didn't protect and VU abandoned the run--the one thing that worked--when it fell behind.
