VerHagen signs with the Tigers
With juniors Anthony Gomez and Sam Selman already gone to the pros, focus has been on whether right handed pitcher Drew VerHagen would follow suit.
Today, he did.
According to the Detroit News, VerHagen has come to terms with the Detroit Tigers and has signed a professional contract. There has been no word on the terms of his deal.
VerHagen appeared in 27 games this past season -- third most on the team -- including seven starts. VerHagen had a 3.50 ERA and struck out 37 batters.
Six draft-eligible juniors were selected by varios MLB franchises earlier this month. Selman (second round), Gomez (third) and VerHagen (fourth) were the highest drafted players.
Yet to make a decision on their immediate playing futures are redshirt junior right hander Will Clinard, center fielder Connor Harrell, and right fielder Mike Yastrzemski. Of the three, VandySports.com believes Clinard is the most likely to sign.
Clinard, like VerHagen, was drafted by the Tigers.
