Commodores blow out Arkansas

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Defense may be the calling card for Arkansas, but it was the Commodores that flexed its muscle from start to finish as Vanderbilt defeated the Razorbacks 67-49 at Memorial Gym.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Commodores, ending the longest skid for the program since 2009.

Vanderbilt started off the game cold from the field, but soon put together a 10-0 run, mostly behind the play of true freshman Sheldon Jeter. The Pennsylvania native broke a 11-11 tie with a three from the corner. A few moments later, Jeter banked in a three from the top of the key. He later converted on a pair of free throws to complete his own 8-0 run.

Vanderbilt stretched the lead to as many as 15 points in the first half, and hold a 35-24 advantage at the break.

The Razorbacks staged a mini-comeback midway through the second half, cutting the score to 43-38 at just under the 12 minute mark, but Vanderbilt responded with a 24-11 run to close out the game.

Junior Rod Odom led the 'Dores with 15 points. Jeter finished with 13, all coming in the first half. Sophomore center Josh Henderson added 11 points off the bench.

The Commodores out-rebounded the Hawgs 33-24. Vanderbilt did commit 15 turnovers but balanced that with 15 assists. Vanderbilt was also 9-of-22 from behind the arc. Arkansas meanwhile shot just 30.8-percent from the field during the day.

Vanderbilt, now 9-13 on the year, will attempt to even the score with in-state rival Tennessee on Wednesday night when the Volunteers come to Memorial Gym. Tip-off is set at 7 p.m. CT.
