Women's hoops notebook

RECORD: 7-2

CURRENT STREAK: Won four straight

NEXT GAME: at Hartford, Dec. 15, 1 p.m.

WHAT'S HAPPENING:

The Commodores are in the midst of a long break between games, but that doesn't mean the players have had a great deal of down time.

The Vanderbilt players, along with the other students, are taking their final exams for the semester, which is always an extensive and exhausting endeavor.

Also, the players are staying busy with the normal basketball-related activities, including practices, film study and workouts in the weight room. So, simply put, the Commodores' 12-day layoff between games hasn't necessarily included much relaxation.

LOOKING AHEAD:

Vanderbilt's next action comes on Sunday, Dec. 15, when the Commodores visit Hartford for a 1 p.m. contest.

Vanderbilt will then play its second straight road game just three days later, visiting James Madison on Dec. 18 for a 6 p.m. game.

The Commodores have played just one road game thus far, traveling to Cameron Indoor Stadium to face Duke on Nov. 21. Vanderbilt hung with the Devils for the game's first 30 minutes before Duke pulled away for a 88-69 win.

NEXT HOME GAME:

VU hosts UNC-Asheville; Teddy Bear toss returns
The Commodores return to Memorial Gym on Dec. 21 to host UNC-Asheville at 11:30 a.m.

The game will feature the annual Teddy Bear toss - a popular promotion sponsored by Erie Insurance that allows fans to get in the holiday spirit and benefits local children by providing stuffed animals as Christmas presents.

It works like this: Fans are encouraged to bring a new teddy bear or stuffed animal to the gym. During a designated time, a target will be placed at the center of the gym and fans will attempt to hit the target with the stuffed animals. The fan that makes it in the target (or comes closest) will win a Vanderbilt prize pack. More importantly, all the teddy bears and stuffed animals will be donated to the Monroe Carell Jr.'s Children Hospital.

The Vanderbilt men will also play that day, hosting Georgia Tech at 3 p.m.

BIG GAME FOR BOWE:

Vanderbilt sophomore Heather Bowe had a huge night for the Commodores last Tuesday against ETSU at Memorial Gym. During the 92-71 victory, Bowe scored a career-high 19 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in 24 minutes of action.

Bowe finished 8-of-9 from the floor in the win.

Senior Jasmine Lister led all scorers in the game with 26 points.
