Dahlman sidelined with blood clot

Rebekah Dahlman, a freshman for the Vanderbilt women's basketball team, was diagnosed with a blood clot earlier this week and underwent surgery on Tuesday and a follow-up procedure on Wednesday. Both procedures were successful, and the blood clot has been dissolved.

Dahlman has been released from the hospital and returned to campus, but no timetable has been set in regard to her return to action. She will continue to be evaluated.

The freshman guard has started all nine games this season and is averaging 11.4 points per game. Dahlman currently leads the SEC and ranks 10th in the nation in 3-point percentage at 51.4 percent (18-of-35).

In her first collegiate game, she scored 23 points in 29 minutes of action against Appalachian State on Nov. 8. It was the most points in a freshman debut in program history, breaking a 33-year old record set by Barbara Brackman (22 points) in 1981.

Dahlman was a McDonald's All-American as a senior at Braham Area High (Braham, Minn.) and scored a state-record 5,060 points in her high school career.

The Commodores (7-2), who have won four straight games, visit Hartford on Sunday. Vanderbilt hasn't played a game since downing ETSU, 92-71, on Dec. 3.
