Mitchell chooses Vanderbilt
Shelton Mitchell pledged to the program.Vanderbilt added another major piece to its 2014 recruiting class on Friday as Rivals150 guard
Mitchell announced his decision via Twitter on Friday morning.
The four-star prospect originally signed with Wake Forest during the early signing period in November, but the dismissal of head coach Jeff Bzdelik led to a release of his letter of intent.
Considered a natural point guard, the 6-foot-3 Mitchell chose the Commodores over Missouri shortly after taking official visits to both programs. The Waxhaw, North Carolina native was a standout for the Chris Paul All-Stars on the AAU circuit and spent his senior season at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia.
The lead prospect is known for his effortless handle, ability to see the floor and distribute. He's also quite capable of scoring from all areas in the half court and possesses enough athleticism to be effective on the defensive side of the ball.
Mitchell also acquired scholarship offers from programs like Arizona, Cal, Clemson, Illinois, Memphis, Mississippi State, NC State, South Carolina and Virginia Tech during his recruitment.
Ranked 76th overall in the final Rivals150 rankings, he joins fellow nationally ranked signees Wade Baldwin, Riley LaChance and Matthew Fisher-Davis, as well as three-star forward Jeff Roberson in Vanderbilt's class.
The Commodores are looking to rebuild its roster and rebound from back-to-back losing seasons.
VandySports.com hopes to have more on Mitchell's decision soon.
