3-star QB commits to Vandy

The Commodores got back on track with their 2017 recruiting class today as Brantley (Ala.) quarterback Jacob Free announced his commitment to Vanderbilt via Twitter. The three-star rated prospect visited West End on Friday and chose the Commodores over a top three that also included Memphis and Western Kentucky.

Free first caught the eye of the coaching staff last summer when he camped at Vanderbilt and has maintained a relationship with offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig ever since.

The Commodores became the first SEC school to offer the 6-foot-4, 200-pound prospect a month ago after Ludwig evaluated him during the spring.

“Without a doubt, playing in the SEC has been my dream. I like the football program itself at Vanderbilt. They have a great football program. On the academic side, Vanderbilt is a great school. If you graduate from Vanderbilt, it will take you a long way past football,” Free told our own Justin Angel after receiving his offer.

During his junior campaign, Free threw for 2,713 yards and 35 touchdowns while also rushing for 294 yards and seven touchdowns while leading Brantley to a 10-4 overall record.

With the talented signal-caller now in the fold, the Commodores are hoping to build on their recruiting momentum heading into their Friday Night Lights camp on June 24th.
