Vanderbilt picked up another addition to their 2016 recruiting class on Monday evening when Glenbard West (Ill.) 3-star athlete Sam Brodner announced his verbal pledge to the Commodores via Twitter.
Brodner made an unofficial visit to Vanderbilt back on June 10th, his first trip to Nashville. While listed as an athlete, the Commodores like the Illinois product at running back.
"From what I learned about Vanderbilt's offense and talking to coach, I think that I would fit in really well there. I looked at some of their running back film, and I think I have a similar style to Ralph Webb, the freshman that run for over 900 yards. I think we have the same mentality running the ball, which I think is pretty cool. I think I would fit well into that offense," he told VandySports.com after his visit.
At 5-foot-11, 210-pounds, Brodner is a powerful running back that rushed for 1,950 yards and 27 touchdowns during his junior season.
His running style is old school and smashmouth.
"It's physical. That's the only way that I like to describe it. It's just north and south, and I'm not stopping for anybody along the way," he explained.
Brodner also had offers from Illinois, Nevada, Wyoming, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, and others. He is the 34 rated prospect in the state of Illinois according to Rivals.
