Dawkins pledges to Commodores

The Vanderbilt Commodores keep their recruiting momentum going with the commitment of Peddie School (N.J.) offensive center Daniel Dawkins.

The 4-star rated prospect received an offer from the Commodores back on January 17th and spent almost an entire week on West End on an unofficial visit from March 12th-16th.

Vanderbilt sees the 6-foot-4, 295-pound prospect being an impact player at the center position.

"A lot of schools have been talking to me about attacking the nose guard as a center, a lot of guys have problems with that but being as strong as I am I'm able to take care of that no problem. The bull rush is fine with me, there is not too many people stronger than me, that's one of the things schools love about me. Especially being physical, powerful, and just a dominating force on the field," Dawkins told Vanderbilt back in February.

Dawkins' relationship with offensive line coach Cameron Norcross was another big factor in choosing the Commodores.

"Big thing with him was not just making me a better athlete, but a better student and being a better man after college is all done. That really has stuck with me. The family aspect of that is huge and it really reached out to me and that's what I'm looking for with this whole recruiting process is family and having a strong core, that's how you build a great program."

Dawkins chose the Commodores over the likes of Virginia, Duke, Michigan, North Carolina, Syracuse, and others.

He becomes the third overall commitment in the 2018 class, joining his high school teammate in Peddie School (N.J.) quarterback Allan Walters and American Heritage (Fla.) wide receiver Miles Jones.
