Franklin’s Williams to visit Vanderbilt

Franklin offensive lineman Caden Williams has spent the off-season adding weight to his 6-foot-5 frame. He’s currently 270-pounds, and college coaches have taken notice in the Middle Tennessee native.

“The recruiting process is going pretty good. I am going out to Vanderbilt on Saturday for their scrimmage. At the end of this month, I am going up to Harvard for a spring practice and to tour the facilities. I went to Tennessee last week. I went to Illinois State and Western Kentucky’s junior days as well,” said Williams.

Williams will take the short trip to West End on Saturday, as he will watch the Commodores scrimmage.

“At Vanderbilt, I really want to interact with the coaches a lot. I would like to get to know them. I want to the facilities as well as the campus. Education is an important thing, and I will take that in consideration when I am picking a school,” said Williams.

The 6-foot-5 and 270-pound offensive lineman is familiar with the Commodore program, and he is looking forward to the visit.

“I like that Vanderbilt is in the SEC, and I like the competition they face. They’ve got a strong football program committed to building the best athletes. They have a great coaching staff, and I look forward to meeting them. I would also get a fantastic education at Vanderbilt,” stated Williams.

Williams currently has an offer from Illinois State, but he is getting interest from several other schools. The Franklin native has gained weight this offseason, but college coaches are also impressed with his quickness.

“I’m really quick off the ball. I like to shock the opponent with how quick that I am off the ball. I want to beat them to the punch. I’m physical, and I always block to the whistle. I love run blocking. We are in a triple option offense. I enjoy getting up to the second level and blocking linebackers, but I also enjoy pass blocking,” said Williams.

Franklin had a solid year in 2015, but the Rebels hope to build on the momentum heading into next season.

“It was great. We struggled some early, but we got our act together. Before the season, all we heard was how good the senior class was that left, and that we were not going to be very good. We finally came together, and we went on a really good run there. We just came up short in a second round game. It was a good season,” said Williams.
