Vanderbilt gets its QB

Vanderbilt started the 2015 recruiting cycle with the idea of taking a quarterback just like with each recruiting period, but the Commodore staff was very critical in what type of future field commander it was going to select.
Offensive coordinator Karl Dorrell made several evaluation trips across the country in search of prospects that would fit into his new true pro-style offensive scheme.

A few weeks ago, Dorrell found a quarterback that fit all the needs of the position in La Salle College High standout Kyle Shurmur. On Friday, the three-star prospect became the newest member of the Commodores commitment class.
"I did commit to Vanderbilt," Shurmur confirmed with VandySports.com via text message.
The Wyndmoor (Pa.) resident made a trip to Nashville on Wednesday to meet with the Vanderbilt coaches and get a feel of the Commodore campus. He also officially received his offer from the program as the staff wanted to make the moment more personal than just a phone call or in-school visit.
Regarded as one of the top passers in the state of Pennsylvania this recruiting period, Shurmur chose the Commodores over several other schools including Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Illinois, Central Florida and Temple as well as other favorites such as Duke, Penn State and Wake Forest.
"So excited for my opportunity to play at Vanderbilt. Thanks to all the people that have helped me throughout #vanderbilt #anchordown" - Shurmur tweeted a short time ago.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound talent passed for 2,472 yards and 25 touchdowns during his first season at La Salle, leading the Explorers to a 8-4 record and receiving All-Catholic League honors. He also received all-state consideration.
The son of current Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, Kyle came to La Salle after spending two years at St. Edward High in Lakewood (Ohio) as his father served as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
A former ballboy for the Browns, Rams and even Eagles during his father's first run with that franchise, Shurmur has been around the game of football his entire life and is noted for his advanced mental acumen for the game.
He also brings obvious arm strength and accuracy to the position as Vanderbilt attempts to upgrade its quarterback roster.
Shurmur joins Rivals250 defensive back Donovan Sheffield of Ensworth and three-star running back Josh Crawford of Edgewood Academy (Ala.) as current Vanderbilt commitments in the 2015 class. The Commodores are expected to sign no more than 15 prospects this recruiting cycle.
