Vanderbilt lands first 2019 commitment from Indiana TE

Vanderbilt landed their first commitment in the 2019 class on Wednesday afternoon in Zionsville (Ind.) tight end Joel DeCoursey.

The three-star prospect took a detailed visit to West End on Monday that included watching spring practice, touring the campus, and talking one-on-one with the coaching staff.

"I just had one of those gut feelings when I left campus that Vanderbilt was the place for me," he said of his decision.

"They have everything I'm looking for. Outstanding academics, great competition, awesome coaches and great guys on the team."

The Commodores staff likes the 6-foot-5, 230-pound prospect as a versatile, do-it-all tight end.

"They like how I can be a wing back and go block a defensive end or an outside linebacker, but also be a threat out in space and run routes against safeties. They also like my ability to track the ball in the air. They said it's hard to find a guy that can do both of those things - block and run routes."
