Xavier upsets Vanderbilt in OT

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Vanderbilt blew a nine-point second half lead in the span of 1:17 and couldn't finish down the stretch, as Xavier came to Memorial Gymnasium and upset the Commodores in overtime by a 82-70 score on Monday evening.
VU led 66-62 with 3:56 left after John Jenkins drilled a 3-pointer, but the Commodores didn't score for the rest of regulation. The Musketeers' Mark Lyons hit a short jumper with six seconds left to break open a tie game and send the contest to overtime.

Xavier got the first eight points of the extra period, as VU failed to tally until Jenkins hit a jumper with 2:22 left. After Xavier's Tu Holloway missed a shot, Jenkins countered with a layup to cut the margin to 74-40, but XU out-scored Vandy 8-0 the rest of the way.
Xavier shot just 37.8 percent for the game, but out-rebounded VU 54-33 and the Commodores committed 18 turnovers. Former Commodore Andre Walker had 14 boards for the Musketeers.
Holloway scored 24 points, but needed 20 shots to do it. Lyons added 19 for Xavier, and Travis Taylor had 11.
Holloway and Lyons combined for seven points at half on 16 shots. Holloway had 10 in overtime alone.
Jenkins had 20 for VU, and Jeffery Taylor and Lance Goulbourne each had 18.
