After landing an offer from Vanderbilt on Wednesday, Andalusia (Ala.) cornerback target Allan George has given his verbal pledge to the Commodores after his weekend official visit. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect had originally committed to Richmond back on January 15th, but in the end a late SEC offer was too good to pass up.

“I had a meeting with Coach Mason this morning at eight o’clock. We had talked to him for a good bit. At the end of the meeting, I mentioned that I needed to go to the bookstore to get some gear. Last night, I mentioned like going to get a visor and some shirts. So they got the hint that I may be committing this weekend. This morning, I told Coach Mason that I committed,” said George.

“Then, we went to the other room to tell the other coaches, and they were ecstatic. They seem really excited to get me.”

George made his first trip to the Music City this weekend, and he was impressed with the city of Nashville and Vanderbilt University.

“It was a nice visit. We had a lot of activities. The campus tour was nice, and they went in depth on a lot of things. We didn’t have to ask any questions about academics and athletics. The next day we had a meeting with the strength coach and the positional meetings. Overall, it was nice. It was the best visit that I have been on,” said George.

“I didn’t think that I would love this school as much I did. I knew that they school was going to be larger than Richmond. It was going to have more people due to student population. Vanderbilt is what I liked. It was real nice.”

George likes the academics and city of Nashville, but those were not the deciding factor when he chose the Commodores.

“The competition level really sold me on Vanderbilt. You want to play the best. You have to beat the best to be the best, and the SEC is arguably the best conference in college football,” said George.

The Alabama corner enjoyed his time with Vanderbilt defensive backs coach Marc Mattioli.

“My relationship with Coach Mattioli is great. He’s a great guy. He really wanted me, and we have only been talking since last Tuesday. He made me feel like I was I was already on the team from my first meeting with him. Our relationship is solid, and I hope it keeps growing and getting better,” said George.

George is the 17th commitment of Vanderbilt’s 2017 class. He joins other defensive backs Randall Haynie and Tae Daley.
