Vanderbilt wide receiver Kalija Lipscomb signed a free-agent contract with Kansas City, according to Yahoo Sports NFL writer Terez Paylor.
Kansas City drafted six players in 2020, none of whom were receivers. The Chiefs have a deep wide receiver corps, including Tyreek Hill (58 catches, 860 yards last year), Sammie Watkins (52-673), Mecole Hardman (26-538), DeMarcus Robinson (32-449) and Byron Pringle (12-170).
ESPN listed Lipscomb as the fourth-best un-drafted player.
Lipscomb contributed heavily in 12 games his freshman year as a reserve receiver, recording 27 receptions for 319 yards and two touchdowns. He also was a contributor in the punt return game, tallying 149 yards on ten returns for a 14.9 average.
During his sophomore season, he led the Commodores with 16.5 yards per reception (37 receptions, 610 yards) and scored eight times in 12 games, earning two starts.
As a junior, he led the conference with 87 receptions that covered 916 yards and nine scores in 13 games. He was also regularly used in the rushing game, recording 14 carries for 75 yards and one touchdown.
Lipscomb's statistical production dropped in his senior year amidst a dysfunctional offense with major issues at quarterback and offensive line, but he still led the team in receiving with 47 receptions, 511 yards, and three touchdowns.
