Senior forward Jeff Roberson was rewarded for his excellent senior season on Tuesday when he was named to the All-SEC Second Team by the league’s coaches in an announcement made by the conference office in Birmingham, Ala. Roberson, who leads the Commodores in scoring and rebounding this season, makes his first career appearance on an all-conference team.
Roberson has had a stellar senior season for Vanderbilt in 2017-18, finishing the regular season ranked in the top five in five different categories, ending the SEC campaign with the second-most 20-point games, and registering eight double-doubles for the year, which ranks third in the conference.
Roberson finished the regular season fifth in the league in scoring (17.0), fifth in rebounding (7.2), second in free throw percentage (.852), fourth in field goal percentage (.484), and fourth in defensive rebounds (5.3). His 17.0 scoring average is the highest by a Commodore player since John Jenkins averaged 19.9 points per game in 2012.
He claimed the team’s only SEC Player of the Week honor this season for his performance on February 19 in two Vanderbilt wins over Mississippi State and Florida. He averaged 24 points, nine rebounds and two assists for the week.
In his career, Roberson has moved to eighth on Vanderbilt’s all-time total rebounding list with 750, with Jeffery Taylor (2009-12) up next in seventh with 752 career rebounds.
Vanderbilt opens SEC Tournament play this Wednesday in St. Louis, Mo., when they take on Georgia at 6 p.m. CT.
