By the looks of it, Vanderbilt's quarterback decision has been made coming out of its bye week.
Head coach Clark Lea indicated on Commodore Hour that veteran quarterback Ken Seals will be the starter as Vanderbilt faces off against Ole Miss this weekend.
"We're going to stay the course with Ken," Lea said. "We appreciate how he's taken care of the ball. We've seen enough in the last few weeks to see Ken has stepped forward with confidence."
Seals took over the starting role as Vanderbilt was without AJ Swann in its matchup against Missouri. Seals kept the job through Vanderbilt's next two games and ultimately earned the starting job coming out of its bye week.
The senior quarterback out-completed Swann 61.9% to 53.8%, had a higher average per pass and threw less than an interception per game as opposed to Swann's 1.4 per outing. Swann did throw for 258 yards per start as opposed to Seals' 246.6.
It feels as if Vanderbilt made the safe choice and turned towards the quarterback that has taken control of its offense as well as the ball. Perhaps the ceiling isn't as high as it would be with Vanderbilt's highly-rated sophomore but it feels as if Seals may give the Commodores their best chance to pick up a win moving forward.
Both Swann and Seals have two years of eligibility remaining and could theoretically compete again for the job this season or in the spring.
It feels as if Seals has the keys to the car, though. At least for now.
