Kinley updates recruiting process

One in-state prospect the Vanderbilt Commodores are keeping an eye on cornerback Cameron Kinley out of Lausanne Collegiate School (Tenn.). The tall, lengthy prospect competed at Vanderbilt's Elite II camp on Tuesday.

"It was great. I enjoyed it. A lot of competition, a lot of fun, a lot of energy. It was definitely a great workout with the coaches. I loved the way they taught me and I learned a lot of great things that I'm going to take back to Memphis."

Kinley has been in contact with inside linebackers coach Chris Marve throughout his recruiting process, but Tuesday's camp gave him a chance to work one-on-one with both secondaries coach Marc Mattioli and head coach Derek Mason.

"They definitely teach me the right things. They'll work with you. They are patient. I like their energy and they definitely know what they are talking about."

The Memphis product is already quite familiar with the Vanderbilt program, having already visited twice before taking part in this weeks camp.

"Great feel. It feels like home. The facilities are top notch. It's in the middle of the city and I love Nashville."

I asked Kinley where he currently stands with the Commodores coming off Tuesday's camp performance.

"Coach Marve said he really liked me today and he said he would get back with me after he talked to the rest of the coaches. I feel like my performance was really good, so I'll just have to see what happens from here."

Kinley didn't come away empty handed at Tuesday's camp. He received an offer from Yale immediately after Vanderbilt's camp and was later extended offers from Penn, Princeton, and Harvard - all those schools had assistant coaches assisting with the Commodores' coaching staff throughout the week.

The 6-foot-2, 182-pound prospect also holds offers from Army, Navy, Air Force, and a few FCS schools as well.

"My options are open right now. I'm looking for a good academic environment that I know will help me in the future."
