McCallie’s Marcellus Barnes, Jr. isn’t a stranger to Vanderbilt. The Chattanooga defensive back visited Vanderbilt a couple of times during the 2022 season, and the 6-foot-1 and 170-pound athlete made his way back to the Music City for Vanderbilt’s Junior day.

“The Vanderbilt visit was really good. It felt different as soon as I stepped on campus,” said Barnes.

“I took a tour of the athletic and academic sides of campus. Then, there was an academic presentation and shortly after we ate. After that, we headed into some competitive games. Finishing up we had position meetings and then the photo shoot. I felt genuine love while I was there”

Barnes got to spend time with his primary recruiter Vanderbilt corners coach Dan Jackson and Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea.

“The position meetings were great. It was very informative and had a lot of energy from Coach Jackson. I loved it,” said Barnes.

“I got to speak to Coach Lea. I love how determined he is. He is on a mission. My family, and I enjoyed it a lot.”

Vanderbilt also informed the junior day visitors of the plans for the new athletic facilities currently under construction.

“The new facilities are going to be crazy. I can’t wait to see them,” said Barnes.

Barnes will be busy this spring, as he will visit Wake Forest, Virginia, Notre Dame, and Georgia Tech this spring. The Chattanooga defensive back recently added offers from Wake Forest, Liberty, Charlotte, and Tulane.
