Towles commits to Tennessee Tech

Antioch (Tenn.) defensive standout Kedrick Towles has been one of the most underrated players in middle Tennessee the past couple of years.
A 6-foot, 200-pounder who runs a 4.56 in the forty as both a linebacker and possible safety prospect, Towles has racked up over 170 tackles and 10 sacks in the past two years while helping lead his Bears program to back-to-back second round appearences in the Class 5A playoffs.

Now after a long recruitment process that included interest from various schools such as Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee State, Louisville Memphis, Arkansas State and others, the all-region performer has made his decision to continue his career at Tennessee Tech and play for former Vanderbilt legend Watson Brown.
"I took one visit January 11th to Tennessee Tech. and I committed on my official visit there," Towles informed VandySports.com recently. "I was to have another visit with UT Martin but I backed out and just stood strong with my decision."
Towles, who also had an offer from Tennessee-Martin, says that comfort level was key to his decision.
"It really came down between Martin and Tech. I felt like Tech was more at home and the atmosphere that I wanted to be in.
"I felt like I was at home, and most of all the players and the coaches where just completely honest with me throughout the whole recruiting process. Also, working with a legend like Coach Brown I think will be a great experience for me.
"The education at Tennessee Tech is outstanding and the proximity of where Tech is located was also good for me."
Towles registered 100 tackles, a couple of sacks and an interception this season while leading the Bears to a 7-5 record and trip to the second round of the playoffs in 2007. Towles also played receiver in the Bears wide open attack and caught 14 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns.
During the summer, Towles camped at Vanderbilt and Middle Tennessee State and has visited Vanderbilt and Ole Miss for unofficials during this year.
A solid tackler, Towles is a alert and heady defender with good speed and quickness. He will look to work on building more size and better hand technique once he enters the Golden Eagle program.
He joins fellow Antioch teammates Michael McAdoo, Cameron Hamler, Kent Aigbe and Dontrel Watkins as college commitments.
McAdoo recently chose North Carolina over Kentucky while Hamler and Aigbe have committed to Tusculum College. Underrated receiver Dontel Watkins will head to Kansas to attend junior college powerhouse Butler Community College and play for the Grizzlies.
