Vandy bombs Austin Peay on Tuesday
Home runs from Ethan Paul, Walker Grisanti and J.J. Bleday helped Vanderbilt to a 19-6 bludgeoning of Austin Peay on Tuesday afternoon at Hawkins Field.
Third baseman Jayson Gonzalez tied Paul for the team lead with four hits, and led VU with four RBIs.
The Commodores pounded out 19 hits and reached base 29 times.
Freshman Mason Hickman (2-0) went four innings, gave up one run and picked up the win.
The 'Dores trailed 1-0 heading into the third, but a two-run homer from Paul put Vandy up for good.
The Commodores added eight more in the fourth, which included a two-run single from Paul.
Vandy (8-1) has won seven straight, and plays Illinois State on Wednesday at Hawkins Field. Freshman Jake Eder will draw the start for the 'Dores.
NOTES
Freshman pitcher Erik Kaiser saw action for Vanderbilt on Tuesday, as he threw a scoreless ninth with a hit allowed and a pair of strikeouts. He was the only Commodore who hadn't seen action entering Tuesday.
Preseason first team All-Southeastern Conference first baseman Julian Infante, mired in a 1-for-27 slump, didn't play for the second-straight day. Austin Martin, who had two hits and walked twice, started in his place at first.
Grisanti started in left.
