Vanderbilt picked up their seventh commitment from one of their newest targets in Belen Jesuit Prep (Fla.) kicker Javan Rice.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect is the 9th ranked kicker according to Kohl's Kicking and 45th by Chris Sailer Kicking.

Rice went into detail about his decision to commit to the Commodores.

"First of Vanderbilt's elite academic standing, secondly the coaching staff, Coach Mason has done an incredible job turning the program around and Coach Genyk has turned the specialists into one of the best groups in the country."

"Also, the culture of the program is a positive one and that starts from the head coach. It seemed like every player and coach was so passionate about the school and the program."

During his junior season, he was named second team All-State in Florida after converting 9 of 13 field goal attempts. He also averaged 40 yards per punt and 36 of his 44 kickoffs resulted in touchbacks.

Rice visited Vanderbilt on Tuesday after earning an offer from the Commodores on Sunday.

Rice becomes the 5th commitment in the 2018 class, joining Allan Walters, Miles Jones, Dan Dawkins, Alston Orji, Ben Bresnahan, and Gavin Schoenwald.
