Freshman right-handed pitcher Corbin Brooksbank has left both the Vanderbilt baseball team and the university.
Brooksbank does not appear on the current roster listed on VU's official website. Vanderbilt media relations director Kyle Parkinson confirmed on Monday that Brooksbank is no longer at VU.
Brooksbank, a true freshman from The McCallie School in Signal Mountain, Tenn., was one of 10 pitchers signed as part of the Class of 2017. He ranked as the No. 172 freshman in America by Perfect Game, and was expected to see some innings in 2018.
McCallie finished as the state runners-up in 2017 behind the two-way talents of Brooksbank. He touched 94 on the radar gun last season.
That shrinks Vanderbilt's roster to 38 for the coming season. The Commodores must get down to 35 by the season's start.
Vanderbilt was already likely down one pitcher for this coming season after pitcher Joe Gobillot suffered a serious heat-related injury in the fall that required him to withdraw from school. Gobillot is back on campus for the spring, but may take a medical redshirt for this season.
VU opens its season on Friday, Feb. 16 against Duke.
